Kristen Ashley certainly knows how to start a series in the most jaw dropping and epic of ways. Still Standing is a book that will have you utterly captivated right from the first page and leave you wondering how on earth you’re going to ever find a book that could possibly live up to its greatness on the last page. She pushed all of my limits with this and while there were moments that in another book may have had me putting it down, with Buck and Clara it just pulled me further into their world.
Kristen Ashley has such a unique voice, and there’s honestly nothing out there that hits the way her writing does. From the vivid descriptions that bring the world of the Aces High MC to life to the depth and growth that come from nearly every character big and small Still Standing is a book that goes beyond an escape and transports you entirely into a different world filled with tough, alpha bikers and strong, kindhearted women.
I’ll tell you upfront Buck is unlike many heroes out there. He’s not an easy man, and sweet is not a label that you’d put on him but he has his own brand of sweetness that coming from a man like him makes it so much more than your average “sweet” moments. The moments when his heart shows the deeper layers to him shine so brightly it almost hurts with how beautiful it is. A warning.
Definitely.
I’d gone too far.
I also didn’t care.
“Okay, so then does Tia have to sleep with one, or, say, all of your boys?”
“Don’t do that shit. You know that’s not what I’m talkin’ about.”
“So maybe you’ll explain what you’re talking about.”
“I would, you shut your trap.”
I shut my trap and stared at his shadowed head.
He stared at mine.
Then he muttered, “Christ, need my head examined.”
“You could get off me,” I reminded him.
“Is this shuttin’ your trap?”
I shut my trap again.
“You take of care my house and my business as well as me.”
“What does that mean?”
“That means you move outta the apartment before they kick your ass out. You move into my house. You keep it clean. You keep me fed, that is, when I’m not feedin’ you, and I like to cook, so mostly, I’ll be feedin’ you. You come to work with me and take care of the office, and you go home with me.”
