Benson Bayou Beauregard is the president of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC, and the grandson of the Sergeant at Arms for the Dixie Wardens MC. He’s a mountain of a man and the warden of a prison, and there’s only one thing that can scare him—being told that he’s the father of a three-year-old little girl.
A three-year-old little girl that has no clue who he is. Hell, he only finds out about the little cherub when a woman from child protective services comes by and rocks his world before leaving the girl in his shocked arms.
Every single thing he thinks he knows goes up in a cloud of smoke.
To make matters worse, the woman that he’s been trying to convince to give him a chance takes one look at the little girl and tells him that he’s just not in the right place to handle both of them.
But Bayou was never one to back down from a challenge.
He can handle a three-year-old girl that acts exactly like him, and he can more than take on the fiery red-head that sets flame to his blood while he’s at it.

I have been dying for Bayou’s story for what feels like forever, the forever part is mainly because I’m an impatient brat, but still, BAYOU! SQUEEEEEEE! There is just so much to love in this book. From a unique hero bringing a new level of diversity to Lani’s books to some serious swoon and that fantastic sarcasm that Lani does so well that keeps you giggling. As usual with Lani Lynn Vale’s writing I was utterly captivated the moment I opened this book and devoured it in one sitting. Bayou and Phoebe are definitely one of my all time favorite couples!
I have a laundry list of reasons to love Bayou, but I’ll try to condense that before I reach the point of making a song to praise his perfection. Bayou is a man who more than simply overcomes hardships. With strength well beyond physical he thrives despite life throwing him so many curveballs. Along with that Lani really gives a beautiful example of different, not less than with him which is something I think many people will not only love as much as I do, but also maybe open eyes for people who have never met anyone like Bayou.
Beyond all of that he’s also a man with a heart bigger than even he realizes. There were moments with him where he was so heart achingly sweet I felt like I was just going to burst from swoon overload. Then there’s Phoebe, accepting Bayou exactly as he is from the moment they meet and loving him unconditionally. These two have a soul deep connection that just steals your heart.

I love how in this book LLV writes about real issues and how many people react to people with the issues. I say this, because I have some very important people in my life being diagnosed with Asperger’s and mental illness. Having seen and dealt with how todays society has treated them by looking down or have made them feel less than what they are. I loved how these characters even though are flawed are written as strong characters that have learned to overcome what others think. With all this being said I absolutely adored this book. 5 stars all the way.
The very first night they meet Phoebe sticks up for Bayou, it is not something that he is used too. On that night it helps him start to see that there is absolutely nothing wrong with him. He has been made to feel like he is incapable of being “normal”. Phoebe helps him realize he is “normal” and capable of loving like everyone else.
Bayou and Phoebe are perfect for each other. The chemistry between the two of them is off the charts and this book is filled with just enough steamy scenes. The emotional turmoil that has been instilled within Bayou is helped with the tenacity of Phoebe to prove to him he is perfect just the way he is. He feels like he is incapable of love and tends to steer clear of anything that has to do with emotions. The not so little twist makes him sit back and realize that he can love, and when he does he loves with all of himself. There is so much more I want to place in this review, but I am refusing to or at least trying really hard to add any type of spoilers.
The headings at the beginning of each chapter did have me laughing out loud at just about every chapter. For example… “I hate it when a woman acts like a supervisor. Bitch act like your wage.”- Phoebe OR “If bedbugs are found in beds who in the hell came up with the name cockroach.”- Bayou. These are just a few examples of what to expect. Of course there are a few one liners that had me giggle snort as well. “Don’t brag about how good you can cook. Men eat three-day old pizza. Impress them with anal sex.” LOL or “Waterboard him with your pussy.” LOL.

I have been so excited for Bayou. Like, omg I need Bayou now excited. His book was more than I could ever hope for. I love how LLV gives us these amazing guys, some of who (like Bayou) feel that because they are different they don’t deserve what everyone else has. She smashed those thoughts to pieces when she gave Phoebe to Bayou. With so many people with autism and on the spectrum, it’s awesome when authors write about them and give more light to the struggles they face.
Bayou has quickly jumped up and passed everyone on my number one book boyfriend list. He’s so endearing and sweet while also being his unique blunt self. When you pair that with the introverted yet protective Phoebe, sparks fly like crazy. Phoebe doesn’t care what people think of Bayou, she finds him amazing and so worthy even though he doesn’t feel worthy. I love the man that Bayou became and I’m so happy LLV showed the struggles he went through to become that man.
Obviously this one is a must read. Between the incredible writing, the amazing characters, and the sweet and funny banter, you will be hooked from start to finish!
